Separatist leaders in the Valley on Tuesday said they were ready to meet the members of the visiting BJP Jamp;K Parliamentarian Study Group on the condition that they come to their residences like the all party delegation did last year, subsequently followed by the non-BJP and non-Congress delegation.
We are open to meeting the BJP leaders if they call on us, hardline Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akber told The Indian Express. However,we would not go to meet them.
Moderate Hurriyat Conference had a similar condition. We have already met the leaders from various political parties. We will meet the BJP leaders too if they visit us, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said.
The BJP delegation headed by the former party president Rajnath Singh, who completed their two-day visit to Jammu, said they have no reservations about meeting the separatists. We welcome all shades of opinion in Kashmir, including the separatists, for talks, Singh said in Jammu on Monday. However,he made it clear that the talks will be within the ambit of the Constitution.
He also said the group will not knock on the separatists doors. We would hear them if they come forward to talk.
Last year,BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, who were part of a visiting all-party delegation, did not join the group of leaders who called on Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani,Mirwaiz and JKLF chief Yasin Malik. Subsequently,Swaraj termed the decision of visiting separatists a wrong move.
