Sukh Ram moves HC against conviction

He was awarded a five-year jail term by Special CBI judge R P Pandey on Saturday and sent to jail.

Former telecom minister Sukh Ram moved the Delhi High Court on Wednesday challenging his conviction by a trial court for accepting Rs 3 lakh as bribe to award a lucrative contract to a telecom firm in 1996. Sukh Ram,86,who had held the Telecom portfolio in P V Narasimha Raos Cabinet,was convicted last Friday in a cable contract case. He was awarded a five-year jail term by Special CBI judge R P Pandey on Saturday and sent to jail.
