Toxic: Geethu Mohandas’ film makes RGV question male directors; Sandeep Reddy Vanga gets ‘knocked out’

Alia Bhatt also praised the teaser of the Yash-starrer and called it 'dynamite'. Toxic will release on March 19 alongside the sequel of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar.

On Yash’s 40th birthday, filmmaker Geethu Mohandas dropped one of the boldest teasers of the year for the actor’s upcoming film Toxic. While the teaser carefully avoids revealing the plot, it unmistakably establishes that the film is set in a foreign locale and presents Yash in a far more stylish, daring, and provocative avatar than his KGF persona. Notably, a brief intimate moment in the teaser was enough to leave filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Sandeep Reddy Vanga visibly impressed.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma made a striking statement—one that doubled as a sharp dig at male directors across the industry.

He wrote, “After seeing the Yash-starring trailer of #Toxic, I have no doubt that Geethu Mohandas is the ultimate symbol of women empowerment.”

He added, “No male director is man enough in comparison to this woman… I still can’t believe she shot this.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for crafting unapologetically alpha male characters, also shared his reaction, posting, “TOXIC teaser just knocked me out.” He added, “Style. Attitude. Chaos. Happy Birthday, Yash.”

The teaser also caught the attention of actor Alia Bhatt, who shared it on her Instagram Stories with a single-word reaction: “Dynamite.”

The teaser of Yash’s Toxic opens with a somber funeral scene, only to be disrupted by the arrival of a car. As tension builds, an intimate moment inside the vehicle heightens the unsettling atmosphere, offering glimpses into Yash’s character before the sequence culminates in a sudden explosion—perfectly setting the tone for the film’s dark, chaotic world.

Since its release earlier today, the teaser has amassed close to 9 million views on YouTube, underlining the massive anticipation surrounding the project.

Toxic is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, clashing with the sequel to Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar.

Beyond Toxic, Yash will also be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana, where he essays the role of Ravana. Notably, the actor is also co-producing the mythological epic.
