As Sukh Ram, former Union minister, addressed the crowd seeking support for Aashray, his voice choked with emotion. In reaction, Aashray’s eyes welled up with tears, and it took some effort on Aashray’s part to take control of his emotions while he was on stage.
In the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, the issues including that of improving communication by four-laning of roads and railway lines, and construction of a salt mining plant have taken a back seat this election season.
Coming together of the two senior leaders has also helped strengthen the Congress in the state, which has been trying to portray a united face to challenge the BJP which had won all four Lok Sabha seats in the state in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Sukh Ram, along with Aashray, and son Anil Sharma who is currently the Multi-Purpose Projects and Power Minister in the Jai Ram Thakur government, had defected to the BJP ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls.
Anil Sharma in an interview with The Indian Express, mentions that he will not resign from the post of Multi-Purpose Projects and Power Minister in the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh unless the party leadership asks him to.
