A delegation described as Students’ Parliament representing 28 states met Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat on Thursday as part of an interaction programme.
The delegation, comprising students from premier institutions including IIMs, IITs, national law universities and other reputed colleges and universities, is on a three-day visit to Himachal Pradesh from January 8 to 10 to engage with eminent personalities and exchange ideas.
Addressing the students in the historic Council Chamber, the Speaker shared details about the heritage building, constructed between 1920 and 1925, and its role in India’s legislative history. He said the chamber hosted the country’s first National Assembly, where key resolutions, including women’s voting rights and the ‘Quit India’ proposal, were passed. He also highlighted that Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state of the Indian Republic on January 25, 1971, and has a 68-member Assembly.

He also explained the state’s early adoption of the e-Vidhan system and its transition to the national NeVA platform.
During the interaction, students raised questions on anti-defection law, e-Vidhan, development projects and legislative procedures, which were answered by the Speaker. Later, he also interacted with trainee officers of the Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration.
