RS clears Budget without a debate

The Lok Sabha remained paralysed on the issue of atrocities against ethnic minorities in Sri Lanka

Faced with paucity of time,the Rajya Sabha Thursday approved Union Budget 2013-14 without a debate,a development,witnessed perhaps for the first time in the history of the Upper House,which triggered protests from Opposition members.

With only one day left for the House to go into month-long recess,the Chair directed members to lay their written speeches so that the crucial money Bill could be returned in time to the government.

The Lok Sabha has already passed this Bill.

Lanka issue stalls Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha remained paralysed on the issue of atrocities against ethnic minorities in Sri Lanka.

MPs belonging to the DMK and AIADMK disrupted the House seeking an international inquiry into the atrocities.

TMC MPs also staged a protest over the issue of additional rice through PDS for West Bengal. They also raised slogans against Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Railway Minister P K Bansal for ignoring the state.
