The annual Best Animated Frame (BAF) awards were held at the end of Day 2 of FICCI FRAMES last week. The awards were instituted in 2004 by FICCI to recognise and honour students and professionals in the field of animation, special effects and gaming.
This year,Indian animation, gaming and visual effects companies have romped home with 10 out of 16 Best Animated Frame (BAF) awards. Srinivas Mohan won the Special Jury Award for VFX in a Motion Film for his work in Robot. Interestingly,he was first given an award at the Star- Screen award this year. This is amazing. Right from the Star-Screen award to another Bollywood award and even being recognised by the William & Mary Global Film Award for Special Achievement in Global Production,it has been a great season for Robot, Mohan told Screen. He added that receiving the award at BAF was also special as it is Indias only animation awards held on a global scale. BAF accepts entries from across the world and its good to see an Indian film receive this award. FICCI has also supported the visual effects industry well and that makes this award all the more special, he said. Sony Pictures Imageworks,India received the VFX in a Motion Picture award for Tim Burtons Alice In Wonderland.
Salil Bhargava,CEO of Jump Games, received the award for the Best Mobile Game for Ashes Cricket. This is our third BAF award. Our studio in Pune is making this a habit. The game has done very well in Australia and England and this award speaks for the quality of the game, he said. French and American companies won two awards each in different categories while a British and a Pakistani filmmaker won an award each. Ecole Gerges Melies Parigot and Goblins Trois Petits Points from France won the Animated Short Film – Student award while Sharp Images Milkateer from Pakistan won the Animated TV Episode award.
