Riots: SC refuses to issue directives to UP

It gave SCBA the liberty to file a proper petition,furnishing details of incidents and specific materials.

The Supreme Court Monday refused to take cognizance and issue directives to the UP government over the law and order situation in riot-affected Muzaffarnagar. On a request by the Supreme Court Bar Association SCBA,a Bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam asked why the apex court should take up the plea when the Allahabad High Court was competent to hear the matter. It gave SCBA the liberty to file a proper petition,furnishing details of incidents and specific materials,which the court could take up in an appropriate manner.
