PMO vs HRD

The HRD Ministrys penchant for regulation has led to a plethora of regulatory bodies,creating a tangle in the higher education sector. So when the HRD Ministry proposed to regulate even the 200-odd international schools in the country,the Prime Ministers Office stepped in. Last year,the PMO had referred the issue to the Planning Commission. When the Ministry recently made an attempt to take it to the Cabinet,the PMO referred the case to a Committee of Secretaries CoS,asking for a comprehensive list of details about these schools. While the PMO is apparently not in favour of the regulatory move,Ministry officials are counting on Arjun Singhs reputation to tighten the noose around these international schools.
