Govt frees 300 JUI workers: To survive at the centre,the PPP-led government has conceded to a demand of the right-wing political party,Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam JUI,to free over 300 of its workers,arrested for suspected Taliban links. The arrested persons,some suspected of being close to the Taliban,are being released from jails in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The JUI,led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman,has for long been threatening to pull out of the PPP-led coalition if its demands,including this one,are not met.

Demand for probe panel: The PPP has demanded the federal and Punjab governments set up a special commission to probe Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah8217;s alleged links with outfits involved in terror activities in Pakistan. PPP leaders added Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry should take suo motu action against Sanaullah. This demand came a day after a gathering of prominent clerics demanded the removal of the minister,for allegedly patronising banned groups like the Sipah-e-Sahaba.
