Off-track

Sagar Ballary on how the shooting of Hey na Shabana for Hum Tum Shabana was stalled because the actors were too tanned.

Choreographer Adil Shaikh and producer Sunil Chainani insisted that the Hey na Shabana number in Hum Tum Shabana, where Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor woo a disinterested and angry Minissha Lamba all over a beach, will have them dressed in characters from other films. And director Sagar Ballary made most of the opportunity to present his actors in the most hilarious way.

We zeroed in on several characters which included one of Amitabh Bachchan from his hit Desh Premee where he woos Hema Malini in the garb of a coconut vendor singing Khatoon ki khidmat mein. We decided that Shreyas could do a fun recreation of the number in the same garb, whereas Tusshar could be seen as Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Carribean, amongst other caricatures, said Ballary.

Creating the looks of the characters was not difficult, according to the director, but shooting the track in the scorching heat in May on a beach was. Though the song is set in Goa,we shot it at Mumbais Aksa beach. The heat had made the sand scorching hot. Though the actors could barely put their feet on the burning sand, they did not complain. After two days of shooting, they got tanned so badly that I had to cancel the shoot for a few days till they regained their original complexions. Later, when I shot the song,I made sure that they would retreat into their vans after the shot was complete, said Ballary.

Produced by Horseshoe Pictures and Alliance Entertainment, the film releases on September 23.
