Black magic

If black is your favourite colour,then this show was just what youd have loved. With clean cuts and no fussy frills,the latest collection by Sapna Bhavnani and Sukriti Grover,called Black Velvet,combined fashion with functionality. The all black line from Sofake consisted of pantsuits,blouses,jumpsuits,skirts and dresses. It was great to see no blinding embroidery for once and the only accessories used were the sunglasses that served make the overall look more edgy. Mandira Bedi may have walked the ramp but what was really interesting was the fact that fellow celeb hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar cheered for Bhavnani along with singer Sona Mohapatra and musician Kailash Kher.

One shade of grey,not fifty

Even as one queues up to enter the Talent Box show area at the Source,its easy to spot Sama Rao. Not many may know her name but if the minute you say,the girl with grey hair,all hands will point at her in a heartbeat. Stationed at the Source to write press releases for the Talent Box shows,Rao is a fixture at every mini show that takes place there. This LFW edition is the third one shes working onshe has been assisting Meher Castellino with the press writeups since the launch of Talent Box shows last year. When I first met her,she had green hair. Then it became red,pink and this season,its grey, points out Castellino. Twenty-year-old Rao admits that her hair has become a big part of her identity. I will keep changing my hair colour. Earlier my parents would be shocked but now they are past that stage. In fact,I colour it myself and my mother now helps me, she says,adding that in the fashion world,making a statementjust as she does with her hairis of utmost importance.

I even bagged a freelance assignment because a fashion entrepreneur was impressed by hair. She saw my mop of flaming red hair a few seasons ago and lauded my courage and ability to pull it off. Thats something I pride myself on, says the youngster,who also a piercing on her lower lip. Now thats some bravado,what say?
