Instead of appointing a regular Director General of Police in place of Karamvir Singh, who retires Wednesday,UP government on Tuesday decided to give additional charge of the post to Rajendra Kumar Tiwari,Director General of the Provincial Armed Constabulary. In my more than two-decade-long career,I dont recall any example when an officer was given the additional charge of DGP. The government is creating history, remarked a senior IPS officer. Since Tiwari, who belongs to the 1976 batch of IPS,retires on September 30,he will hold the additional charge of DGP for only a month. No official explanation has been given for the move.
