These exotic Bollywood destinations are not only like a whiff of fresh air for travellers but also prove to be lucrative for the hotel authorities as they result in higher tourist turnout. Bhanupratap Singh,General Manager,Chomu Palace,Rajasthan says,The tourist turnout has definitely doubled after movies like Gulaal and Bhool Bhulaiya were shot at our hotel. Also,we are strategically located on the Jaipur-Delhi-Agra Road so its conducive for tourists to stop over at our hotel. Located 40 kilometres from Jaipur city, the fort boasts of Mughal and Rajput architecture along with colonial influences and is an attractive shooting location for filmmakers. Singh reveals,Director Rohit Shetty had come for a recce to our hotel few days back.
Similarly,Sanjay Leela Bhansalis Black was shot in the Woodville Palace Hotel in Shimla. It is a favourite amongst movie producers. Jyoti Gularia, assistant general manager of Woodville Palace Hotel, says,After Black, not only our tourist turnout has increased but it has also attracted more filmmakers. For instance,3 Idiots and an Iranian film were shot here. So these movies have definitely served as good marketing tools for us.
The hotel authorities do provide special amenities and discounts to filmmakers. Singh says,The amenities and discounts vary from case to case. But overall,we do provide them with good deals on special occasions.
Filmmakers scout these locations either by doing extensive research or after they are recommended by the locals. Actor Raj Singh Chaudhary, who was seen in Gulaal and Antardwand, says,We shot Gulaal at Chomu Palace in Rajasthan. There were several reasons for it. I had written the script and when director Anurag Kashyap asked me where should the film set,I told him Rajasthan since I hail from there. My relatives who stay near Chomu Palace suggested that we should go there for a recce. Anurag liked the place and decided to shoot major portions of the film there.
Apart from adding a lot of visual appeal and authenticity to the films, these places also prove to be apt shooting locations. Chaudhary says,Chomu Palace boasts of typical Rajasthani architecture and is visually stunning. So it seemed very real and lent an authenticity to the film. It was spacious,so thousands of people could be accommodated, vehicles could be parked and at the same time lent certain privacy to the crew as it was fortified.
