NC moves privilege motion against former Army chief

Leader of opposition,Mehbooba Mufti also sought a discussion on the former Army chiefs revelations in the Legislative Assembly.

As the Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly began Monday,National Conference (NC) moved a privilege motion against former Army chief V K Singh for his revelations that the Army has been paying money to all the politicians and ministers in the state. Speaker Mubarak Gul informed the House that he has received privilege motion against the former Army chief. Earlier,Legislative Council chairman Amrit Malhotra referred the Privilege Motion jointly moved by Ajay Sadhotra,Devender Singh Rana and Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy to the Privilege Committee.

As the session began,Independent legislator Engineer Rashid blamed the government for trying to shield those who have been named by Gen. Singh. The house of a Hurriyat leader was sealed on the allegation that he received hawala funds,but a minister who received Rs 1.19 crore according to the former Army chief is still part of the Cabinet, Rashid said.

Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather termed the utterances by former Army chief irresponsible,saying it has damaged the credibility of the House,its members and the institution of Army. A privilege motion against the General is being moved in the House and we demand a high level probe into the whole affair, he said.

The short autumn session is expected to be stormy and the revelations of the former Army chief will reverberate the House. In fact,some legislators have already started demanding resignation of Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir,who has been accused of taking money from the Armys intelligence unit created by Gen. Singh.

Dont wash dirty linen in public,BJP tells him

NEW DELHI: With reference to former Army chief Gen V K Singhs claim on the Army giving funds to Jammu and Kashmir ministers,the BJP on Monday cautioned against washing dirty linen in public.

We should keep away from making comments on the Armed Forces. I urge former generals to refrain from washing dirty linen

in public, said BJP general secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Political parties should also refrain from casting aspersions on

the Armed Forces, Rudy added.

Rudys statement reflects the unease within the BJP over the former Army Chiefs public disclosures on military intelligence operations. ENS
