Chennai, Feb 15 (ANI): The world’s oldest active aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, is on its final journey.It was docked at Chennai port on Monday before it is due to be decommissioned later this year. The ship entered service on May 12, 1987 and is also affiliated to the Garhwal Rifles (infantry regiment) of the Indian Army. The navy’s aircraft carrier guarded India's maritime borders for nearly 60 years. Captain said that the cost of maintaining and running it is becoming more than the cost benefited. With the time all the machineries get old. Kochi INS Vikrant is likely to replace INS Viraat. The mighty aircraft carrier has seen 18 Commanding Officers of which three went on to become Chiefs of Naval Staff. The ship has done over 40,000 hours of steaming and traversed over 5,00,000 nautical miles across the proverbial seven seas. The ship has undertaken over 20,000 hours of flying from its deck.

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): The Research and Referral Hospital of the Indian Army on Thursday said Lance Naik Hanamanthapa's neuro functions and heart functions worsened despite all precautions, eventually leading to his death. R.R. Hospital Director Lt. Gen. Duhan said when they received Lance Naik Hanamthappa in an intubated state on February 9, his body temperature was normal but his blood pressure was very low. Lt. Gen Duhan further said that all these cells, which had already become fragile and consisted of toxin because of working in very cold environment without glucose and oxygen, had produced a lot amount of toxins. Four days after he was found alive in Siachen, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa died in the hospital on Thursday morning.

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday went to meet Indian Army soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa at RR hospital in New Delhi. Naik is the lone survivor out of group of ten soldiers, who were wiped out by an avalanche in the Siachen last week. He was found after the army rescue team in Siachen spotted a body in an enclosed sphere under 25ft of snow.

New Delhi, Jan 15 (ANI): Indian Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Robin K Dhowan and Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha attended the Army Day Parade in the national capital on the occasion of Army Day on Friday. Army Day, which is being observed today, was the day when Lt. General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army post Independence in 1949. This day inspires the troops to continue to enrich the glorious traditions of the Indian Army with their dedication and sacrifice.
