Questioning the arrest of alleged Hizbul Mujahideen militant Liyaqat Ali Shah by the Delhi Police,Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday wondered if a militant would come to attack India along with his family.
I am hearing for the first time that a militant had come to attack a shopping mall by holding the hand of his wife in one hand and his children in the other as if they were entering India on picnic. When militants come, they have guns in one hand and grenades in the other, said Omar while replying to a discussion on demand for grants to the Home department in the Legislative Assembly.
Referring to the Jammu and Kashmir Polices claim that Liyaqat was coming back under the state governments rehabilitation policy,Omar said,We know if any wrong is done this time, many others who too want to return home under this policy will step backward8230;. First,we wanted them to enter through the LoC,but as the neighbouring country did not agree to it as it would expose its hand behind Kashmir turmoil before the world community,we had no option but to allow them to come through Nepal. It had been going on smoothly for the last many months until the Delhi Police arrested Liyaqat.
Calling for settlement of the Kashmir issue,he accused the Centre of adopting a different yardstick for the Valley. We were told that Afzal Guru was hanged as all legal remedies available to him exhausted. However,in the case of Veerapans gang members who have been convicted of killing 22 policemen, their execution got stayed by the Supreme Court even after the rejection of mercy petition by the President, he added.
