MAOISTS stepped up their activities in Chhattisgarh8217;s diamond-rich belt,abducting and later killing a forest deputy ranger near Indgaon close to the inter-state border with Orissa under Devbhog police station in Raipur district.

Forest deputy ranger Mike Tandi was abducted by suspected Maoist rebels on Friday when he along with two others went inside the forests following a tip-off about illegal tree felling in the area. His body was recovered from a spot under Indgaon range,about 200 kms away from the state capital on Saturday morning,IGP R K Vij told The Sunday Express. Two other forest employees accompanying him were beaten up and chased away by the Naxalites,police sources.
