Look-out notice for cop accused of rape

The Meghalaya Police have issued a look-out notice against Nurul Islam,a sub-inspector who gave his colleagues a slip after he was arrested on charges of raping two minor girls both sisters while he was till recently the officer in-charge of Ampati police station in South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

Islam 48,who was arrested on June 1,managed to escape from police custody in Tura,the district headquarters,a day later.

Ampati,where the police officer allegedly committed the two rapes,is also the Assembly constituency of Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma,apart from being the district headquarters town of South West Garo Hills,about 380 km from Shillong.

Five policemen,including South West Garo Hills Deputy Superintendent of Police,Bijay Chetri,sub-inspector Pyniarborlang Lynshiang and three constables,have been placed under suspension in connection with Islams escape from custody.

According to a complaint lodged by the father of the victims,Islam had first molested and raped his 14-year-old daughter inside the Ampati police station on March 13 and then raped his other 17-year old daughter on March 31 at gunpoint,in their house. Islam hails from Dhubri district in Assam.
