LF must be ready to sit in Oppn: Minister

A year before the Assembly elections,the Samajwadi Party,a constituent of the ruling Left Front,on Tuesday sounded the death knell for the 32-year-old Left rule in the state,blaming the CPM which is principally responsible for the situation we are in.

The results of the 2009 parliamentary polls were disastrous for us,and there is no reason to believe that these will be different in the Assembly polls next year. And its the CPM which is principally responsible for the situation we are in. They pursued some policies and it is for that reason that we have lost the support and faith of the people,and they have taught us a lesson, said Kiranmoy Nanda,the Samajwadi Party general secretary and Minister for Fisheries,adding that the Left Front should be ready to play the role of the Opposition after the polls next year.

He,however,said he was not in favour of advancing the Assembly polls as demanded by the Opposition Trinamool Congress. If the Assembly is dissolved now,Presidents Rule will be imposed. But we dont want that. Our mandate was for five years,and we should finish the term, he added.

Nanda was quick to scotch speculation that he was planning to join a front led by the Trinamool Congress. The question does not arise. We are basically Left and we will remain with the Left, he added.

Nandas remarks come a day ahead of a Left Front meet on Wednesday convened to discuss the results of the municipal polls.

While the CPM did not react to Nandas statement,with CPM state secretariat member Rabin Dev merely saying tomorrow a Left Front meeting has been convened. After that Bimanda Left Front chairman Biman Bose will give his reaction,other Left Front leaders reacted sharply. Nanda is a political opportunist, said Kshiti Goswami,RSP leader and PWD Minister.
