Karmayogi tells the story of Rudran Gurukkal, the lone male descendant of the Chathothu family. The family represents the Yogi community,in which Lord Shiva is believed to have been born. Rudran is haunted by a strange kind of destiny. Indrajith plays Rudran Gurukkal, while Bollywood actress Padmini Kolhapure makes her debut in Malayalam playing Mankamma,Rudrans mother.
His love for theatre and his School of Drama background were the reasons why VKP decided to adapt Hamlet. As for casting Indrajith, the director said that it was the actors eyes that made him decide on him. Hamlet is a complex character and his eyes had to be powerful. I saw it in Indrajith and I am also impressed by his maturity as an actor, stated VKP. As for casting Padmini Kolhapure,he said that the character had to be sensuous, romantic, affectionate and at the same time have a classical face. She goes through different situations and emotions- of love, lust, affection, realisation and guilt.
Karmayogi,VKP said, refers to the central character, that of Hamlet. Talking about its commercial prospects,he said that the subject has been approached with a mindset of doing an honest film. In the content itself there is love, lust, cheating, romance, revenge and action,so we have approached it honestly the way script has demanded. Karmayogi will be a film everyone can enjoy as its an adaptation of a classic, he says . The film is likely to hit the screens in May.
