It was a Delhi Police input, says Commissioner

Four days after the Delhi Police claimed that the arrest of Liyaqat Ali Shah was following inputs from central agencies,Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar Monday said the arrest was following an input from the Delhi Police itself.

Asked whether Liyaqats arrest was following an Intelligence Bureau input or a Delhi Police input,Kumar said,It was a Delhi Police input.

At a press meet on March 22,the police had claimed it was after the central agencies issued an input on Liyaqats arrival in Nepal, that the Delhi Polices Special Cell arrested him from Gorakhpur.

Sources in the Special Cell told The Indian Express that days before Liyaqats arrest,a conversation between Liyaqat and a Hizbul commander was intercepted following which it was learnt that Liyaqat would be arriving with several others in Nepal. Senior police officers justified their claim, saying the central agencies had issued inputs of threats only within the city. It was later that the Special Cell acted on their own input.
