Saumya Tandon is riding high on the success of Dhurandhar. In the Aditya Dhar-directed film, led by Ranveer Singh, she plays Ulfat Hasin, Rehman Dakait’s wife. Recently, Saumya opened the doors of her home and gave viewers a tour of the space she has built with careful thought and love.
Right at the start, the actor made it clear that a professional architect did not design her home. “My house is like a home, it’s a little shabby chic, it’s got a little old world vibe,” she explained. “I did my home on my own; there was no architect that I hired. I did everything on my own.”
The tour began with a small entrance area featuring a chandelier and striking wallpaper. “The moment I saw this space, I just knew that this chandelier had to be put in,” Saumya told Pinkvilla , adding that she paired it with wallpaper she loved even though it doesn’t quite match the interior colours.
A bench from Sarita Handa adds to the entrance’s charm, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
A few steps inside is the living room, where old-world charm takes centre stage. “I have a French bench, I am a huge fan of distressed furniture, the distressed polish look, I just love it,” Saumya revealed. She described falling in love with that European aesthetic found in “old small little villages, and you see these cafes which have these retro, rustic, run-down distressed wood polish.”
The dining area follows the same aesthetic, and interestingly, the vibrant bar was her husband’s choice. “In my entire house, if there is one thing that my husband likes, then that is the bar,” she laughed.
One corner that holds special meaning is what Saumya calls her “lucky sofa.” It was here that she received the call for Dhurandhar. “I loved Aditya Dhar’s work previously, and I’d heard so many good things about him from my friends that he’s such a lovely human being,” she recalled about accepting the role.
Throughout the home, paintings by Saumya’s mother, a professional artist from Kolkata, adorn the walls. One series particularly stands out. “This is basically the similar tree in different seasons in different moods,” Saumya explained about the cluster her mother created specifically for her space.
Her love for details extends to even the smallest elements. About a clock she brought from London, she admitted with humour, “When I got this clock, it stopped. It looks good actually but it actually doesn’t function.”
The kitchen, done in sage green, reflects her preference for cool tones. “I feel that the kitchen should be the most happy place, the most lighted, the most vibrant space in your house,” Saumya said. She even waited six months for the perfect vintage towel hanger from London.
The spacious bedroom serves a dual purpose. “I like empty spaces, and I like a big-sized bedroom,” she confessed. “I also shoot here sometimes so this is where my cameraman can come and we can just click pictures.”
Overall, Saumya Tandon’s home feels lived-in, thoughtful, and deeply personal — much like the actress herself.
