Infiltration bid: Armyman killed

An army jawan was killed in a gunfight with militants,who made an attempt to infiltrate Indian territory from across the Line of Control....

An army jawan was killed in a gunfight with militants,who made an attempt to infiltrate Indian territory from across the Line of Control LoC in Poonch district early Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sepoy Mohinder Singh of 8 Kumaon Regiment,a Defence Ministry spokesperson in Jammu Lt. Colonel Biplab Nath said.

Sources said that earlier,a group of militants,who had sneaked into Indian territory from across the LoC,were challenged by Army troops at the forward post,but the intruders opened fire,which was retaliated by the Indian troops. In the exchange of fire,the jawan recieved serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
