Five more H1N1 cases

Five more cases of the H1N1 virus were detected on Tuesday,taking the total number of cases in the country to 68.

Five more cases of the H1N1 virus were detected on Tuesday,taking the total number of cases in the country to 68. Three cases have been reported from Delhi and one each from Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The Bangalore patient is a 25-year-old man who arrived from the US on June 22. He was detected as infected at the Airport during screening and has been shifted to hospital, a Health Ministry official said. A 30-year-old woman who arrived in Hyderabad on June 15 from USA,transiting Kuwait en route,has tested positive for the virus. Officials said that she reported to an identified health facility on June 21 with fever,cold and sore throat.

The three cases in Delhi include a 15-year-old man who contracted the infection from a family contact who was earlier diagnosed with the virus. The second case is that of a 58-year-old woman who arrived in Delhi from the US on June 19 and reported to an identified health facility on June 21 with complaints of a fever,cough,sore throat,body ache and abdominal pain.

As many as 504 people have been tested for the virus,with 68 testing positive for the Influenza A H1N1 virus. Seven of these are indigenous cases who contracted the infection from positive cases who returned to the country after being infected abroad. According to the Union Health Ministry,41 of the 68 cases have been discharged from hospital.
