Twenty-six years after she walked out of her marriage with George Fernandes,Leila Kabir Fernandes, who returned to her ailing husband with the couples only child Sean Fernandes to 3 Krishna Menon Marg recently, sent a complaint against vested interests to Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday.

On January 2,Sean who is in India to look after his father whose health has been deteriorating, had filed a complaint at the Tughlaq Road police station saying the family feared vested interests could harm the ailing leader, and asked the police to provide security to the immediate family Fernandes,Leila,Sean, his wife and their 10-month-old son.

Sean said at the bottom of the letter that he had submitted to the police on January 2,he had added the name of Jaya Jaitly among the people not to be allowed to meet his father. Jaitly has been a close companion of Fernandes and former Samata Party president.

On Friday, after Sean and his mother had taken Fernandes to a city hospital for a routine evaluation, party workers gathered outside his residence demanding to see the leader. In the ensuing commotion, the police were called and Anil Hegde,a close aide of Fernandes, was taken to the police station along with Govind Yadav, president of Yuva Janata Dal United.

Later,Sean rushed to the police station to verify that Hegde was a family friend. Hegde was released in the evening. I knew the police were mistaken. Jayajis friends had come to the house. She wasnt here, though, he said.

Leilas complaint to the Home Minister says certain vested interests had been influencing him and taking advantage of his poor health and their proximity to him to pursue their own agendas. I would request that proper security be provided to us and that the guards deputed for my husbands safety should be instructed to cooperate only with the immediate familys instructions. The letter,a copy of which is with The Indian Express, also requested that the Delhi Police, the Home Ministry,Parliament and other forums concerned should be briefed to avoid any untoward incident.

Jaya Jaitly who had left for Chennai could not be reached for comments.
