India8217;s coffee exports declined by 20 per cent to 19,195 tonnes in October of the 2011-12 coffee year October-September.
The country had shipped 24,119 tonnes of the brew in the year-ago period,according to Coffee Board data.
However,the price realisation from coffee exports rose by almost 34 per cent to Rs 1,41,568 per tonne in October this year from Rs 1,05,912 per tonne in October,2010.
In value terms,earnings from coffee exports rose by 6 per cent to Rs 271.74 crore in the first month of the current coffee year from Rs 255.45 crore in the corresponding period of the previous coffee year.
According to market analysts,the outlook for overseas shipments of the brew in the October to December period is on the negative side due to low domestic stock availability and the weak global economic scenario.
The only silver lining is the weak rupee against the US dollar,which increases the value of exports in rupee terms,they had said.
The earnings from coffee shipments in terms of US dollars rose marginally to USD 56.70 million in October,2011,from USD 56.13 million in corresponding period of the previous year.
In the first seven months of the current fiscal,coffee exports rose by 18 per cent to 2,10,562 tonnes from 1,78,075 tonnes in the April-October period last fiscal.
In the January-October,2011,period,outbound shipments of the brew rose by 25 per cent to 3,10,657 tonnes from 2,48,545 tonnes in the same period last year.
India largely exports coffee to Italy,Germany,Russia,Belgium and Spain.
