Lord Paul resigns as Dy Speaker of the House of Lords

LONDON: Unhappy over his 4 month suspension from the House of Lords over parliamentary expenses claim,Lord Swraj Paul on Monday resigned from the position as its Deputy Speaker. Lord Paul,79,along with two peers of Asian origin Baroness Monzila Pola Uddin and Lord Amirali Alibhai Bhatia had been suspended last month for varying periods over their claim of accommodation allowance given to MPs who reside outside London.

NATO tankers attacked in Pak

PESHAWAR: A group of militants on Moday attacked two tankers ferrying oil to NATO and allied forces in Afghanistan,injuring three persons in the process in Nowshera district of northwest Pakistan. About eight militants travelling in two vehicles attacked the tankers when they were parked along the G T Road in Nowshera district,the police said. The attackers fled the scene after firing at the tankers. Two drivers and a helper were injured in the firing.

15th futile poll in Nepal PM race

KATHMANDU: Nepals Parliament failed to elect a Prime Minister in the 15th round of elections for the post. Ramchandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress,the lone contestant for the post,received 96 votes against a minimum of 300 required. The next round of elections will take place on November 4.
