Schools in Pune Cantonment to remain closed on January 21 for Pune Grand Tour Stage 2

Both private and government-run schools in the Pune Cantonment area will remain closed on Wednesday, January 21, due to road closures for Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour 2026.

The route of the race will begin from the Ladies Club in Pune Camp and pass through key roads in the Pune Cantonment jurisdiction before moving towards Bopdev Ghat.

A notification to this effect was issued by Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi on Tuesday. Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour spans 109 kilometres with an elevation profile of 1,466 metres. The stage will be held across Pune, Purandar, Rajgad and Haveli areas of Pune district, regions known for their rugged terrain.

The notification issued by District Collector Dudi stated, “The Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour will start from Ladies Club and take the route via East Street, Khanya Maruti Chowk, Pulgate, Solapur bazar Chowky, Golibar Maidan, Lullarnagar Chowk, Jyoti Hotel Chowk, Khadi Machine, Yewalewadi before moving towards Bopdev Ghat. Considering the inconvenience this will cause to the private and government schools in the area, it is necessary that they remain closed on January 21.”

“Under powers as the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority and as per the powers given by the School Education and Sports Department, January 21 has been declared as holiday for the private and government schools in Pune Cantonment area on January 21 for the Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour.”

When contacted, Dudi clarified that the holiday has been declared only for schools in the area and not for colleges.

According to the official website of the tour, Stage 2 of the Pune Grand Tour will be flagged off from the Ladies Club at 12.30 pm on Wednesday and is expected to conclude around 3.40 pm at Nanded City.

“Stage 2 of Pune Grand Tour is a thoughtfully curated track where the cyclists will find themselves pedalling across Pune district’s diverse geography. It’s a call to cycle across hills and forts as a track with steep inclines, twists & turns that challenge at every step,” the event website states.
