Cholera outbreak in Haiti,138 dead
PORT-AU-PRINCE: Haitian President Rene Preval said on Friday cholera had killed at least 138 people in the quake-hit countrys central region and his government was taking measures to contain the epidemic. It was Haitis first cholera epidemic in a century,the World Health Organization said. I can confirm it is cholera, Preval said.
Wanted duo in rape case flees to India
Melbourne: Two men wanted in connection with a vicious rape of a 36-year-old woman here have fled to India,Australian police said on Friday. Police will liaise with Indian authorities in relation to the investigation, said a Victoria Police spokeswoman. The police did not mention the nationalities of the duo,though an AAP report said they had returned to India.
Tibet protests Chinas language policy
Beijing: Tibetan students staged a protest in Qinghai Province against Chinas proposal to make Putonghua the official language in schools in the region. Middle and high school students in Qinghai Province took to the streets on Tuesday and Wednesday to protest the plan,a report in the state run Global Times web edition said.
Austrian with robotic arm dies in car crash
Vienna: A doctor says an Austrian man who was able to drive because of an innovative high-tech artificial arm has died after a car crash. Christian Kandlbauer died on Thursday. The 22-year-old had been in intensive care since Tuesday after his vehicle veered off the road and into a tree.
