PORT-AU-PRINCE: A French search team lifted a 17-year-old girl alive from beneath the rubble in Port-au-Prince. Wednesdays rescue of Darlene Etienne from a collapsed home,15 days after Haitis great quake killed an estimated 200,000 people,was the first such recovery since Saturday,when French rescuers extricated a man from the ruins of a hotel grocery store. Authorities say Etienne may have had some access to water from a bathroom of the wrecked house,and rescuers said she mumbled something about having a little Coca-Cola with her in the rubble.

Iran hangs two for plot to topple state

TEHRAN: Iran on Thursday executed two men accused of involvement in an armed anti-government group,as the public prosecutor announced that new death sentences have been issued against Opposition activists involved in protests over Junes disputed presidential election. The two men,who were hanged before dawn on Thursday,did not appear to be connected to the post-election protests at least one of them was arrested before the election,according to his lawyer.

Crashed jets flight recorders located

BEIRUT: A US Navy vessel has detected the flight recorders from a crashed Ethiopian Airlines jet at some 4,265 feet under the sea,the Lebanese Army said on Thursday. The plane went down on Monday minutes after take-off from Beirut in a fierce storm. It could take days to retrieve the planes flight recorders,which were located late on Wednesday. The Lebanese Army said in a statement that the USS Ramage and a civilian ship from Cyprus were scanning the area.

Villepin acquitted in Sarkozy smear trial

PARIS: A French court on Thursday acquitted former PM Dominique de Villepin of charges of plotting to smear Nicolas Sarkozy to sabotage his presidential bid. The court ruled there were no grounds to convict the 56-year-old politician of complicity to slander Sarkozy in 2004,when the two men were angling to succeed President Jacques Chirac. The verdict coincidentally came on Sarkozys 55th birthday.

Imitation YouTube,Google sites in China

BEIJING: Imitation websites of both Google and YouTube have emerged in China as the country faces off against the real Google over its local operations. YouTubecn.com offers videos from the real YouTube,which is blocked in China. The Google imitation called Goojje is a working search engine that looks like a combination of Google and its top China competitor,Baidu. Both sites were working on Thursday. Agencies
