Dutch bill on humane slaughter may stoke tensions
AMSTERDAM: The Dutch Parliament will vote Tuesday on a bill that,if enacted,will effectively require butchers to stun animals before they are slaughtered. The bill could increase tensions in the country because it would mainly affect the Muslim population.
Australian boy knocked by whale
CANBERRA: A humpback whale hit a dinghy with its tail off Australias coast,knocking a 13-year-old boy unconscious and breaking his collar bone. Drew Hall said he was fishing with his parents off the north coast of New South Wales state on Sunday morning when the whale breached nearby.
New arrest in UK phone hack scandal
LONDON: Britains Press Association said one of its reporters has been arrested by detectives investigating a widening phone hacking scandal. The police said the 34-year-old is being questioned after she turned herself in at a London police station. She is suspected of intercepting private communications.
Russia convicts man who ratted on spies
MOSCOW: A former Russian intelligence officer was convicted in absentia Monday of betraying 10 Russian spies in the US including Anna Chapman. The Moscow District Military Court found Col Alexander Poteyev guilty of high treason and sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
