MP train accident: Toll rises to 24

SHIVPURI MP:The death toll in the railway accident involving a goods train and the Indore-Gwalior Inter City Express at Badarwas rose to 24 on Tuesday with a person succumbing to his injuries in a hospital here,officials said. Twenty three people were killed and 51 injured when a goods train hit the stationary Indore-Gwalior Intercity Express after it overshot the signal amid heavy rains and poor visibility on Monday.

Maoists threaten Jkhand Speaker

RANCHI: Jharkhand Speaker C P Singh said on Tuesday he had received a letter from the Maoists warning him not pursue an application of Dr Arun Kumar,Director,Science and Technology,that he had recently forwarded to the Chief Secretary,A K Singh. Singh said,I have spoken to the Senior Superintendent of Police.

Kerala asks Centre to ban lotteries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has asked the Centre to take stringent action including a ban on Sikkim and Bhutan paper lotteries in the state in the wake of clear cut evidences that promoters of these lotteries were violating rules.The state government has submitted a fresh memorandum with all details of violation of rules by the promoters and expect early action on the matter,state Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac said on Tuesday.

2 Army officers die in Ukhand avalanche

NEW DELHI: The army lost two officers when a mountain expedition camp in Uttarakhand was buried under a massive avalanche on Sunday. While ten members of the expedition who were aiming to climb MT Kamet managed to escape,two officers,Lt Col Pooranchandra and Major Manish Gusain,could not be rescued.

Killer of 9-year-old gets death sentence

CHENNAI: Deeming the case of rape and murder of a child as the rarest of rare cases,the High Court of Madras on Tuesday confirmed the death sentence awarded to a 35-year-old man by a lower court earlier this year. The prosecution argued that Selvam,a married man with four children,lured his neighbours 9-year-old child to his house and raped and killed her,in February 2009.

KZF terrorist arrested

JAMMU: A terrorist of the Khalistan Zindabad Force KZF who was wanted in connection with 1997 Pathankot blast case,was on Tuesday arrested from Jammu by the Punjab Police. Identified as Balbir Singh alias Pinka of Nanak Nagar,sources said the arrest followed specific information from Military Intelligence.
