Delhi-NCR Fog, Cold Wave LIVE Updates: Delhi-NCR witnessed reduced visibility early morning on Tuesday as a thick blanket of fog engulfed the region. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, dense fog is expected to persist till the next two consecutive days. At IGI Airport, Delhi, the current visibility is 350 metres in moderate fog. Over the past three hours, visibility has improved from 50 metres to 350 metres.

Visibility to improve gradually:From around 8:30 am IST on December 30, visibility is expected to further improve to about 600 metres in shallow fog, with a gradual upward trend. By approximately 1:30 pm IST, it is likely to increase to around 1,200 metres in haze or smoke. However, conditions may deteriorate again from about 9:30 pm IST, when visibility could reduce to nearly 800 metres in shallow fog, as per the IMD. The Delhi Airport has also issued a passenger advisory, with airport authorities announcing that the flight operations are being conducted under category-III conditions. Several trains have also been cancelled or delayed due to the fog.

Schools closed in Uttar Pradesh: Meanwhile, schools of all Board affiliations across Uttar Pradesh will remain closed till January 1, 2026, due to the extreme cold and fog conditions. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has asked district authorities to ensure that no individual suffers in the ongoing cold wave. Additional funds have been released to operate night shelters, distribute blankets, and, set up bonfires.

Fog News Today LIVE Updates: Coldwave conditions grip Jharkhand, Gumla records 2.4 degrees C

Coldwave conditions gripped Jharkhand on Tuesday, with Gumla recording 2.4 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

The mercury dipped to below 10 degrees Celsius in at least 13 districts, it said.

Khunti recorded 3.7 degrees Celsius, Lohardaga registered 4.6 degrees Celsius, and in Daltonganj, the mercury dipped to 5 degrees Celsius.

"Over the next four to five days, the minimum temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail in the northern parts of the state, especially in districts that share borders with Bihar," Ranchi meteorological centre's deputy director Abhishek Anand said. State capital Ranchi recorded a low of 5.4 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog blanketed Delhi early Tuesday, causing visibility to drop sharply in several areas, even as the air quality improved marginally to the ‘very poor' category at 388.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a ‘yellow' alert for the city till 9 am in view of the fog.

According to the weather office, visibility at Safdarjung stood at 100 metres at 7.30 am, which improved to 200 metres by 8.30 am.

At Palam, moderate fog was observed with visibility registered around 300 metres at 8.30 am, it added.

At least 118 flights were cancelled, 16 flights diverted and 130 services delayed at the Delhi airport on Tuesday as dense fog disrupted operations.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), operated by DIAL, handles around 1,300 flights daily.

An official said 60 arrivals and 58 departures were cancelled while 16 flights were diverted at the airport.

Information from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com showed that 130 flights were delayed on Tuesday morning at the airport and the average delay time for departures was around 28 minutes.
