BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday quashed the decision of Tamil Nadu vigilance department to conduct further probe into the disproportionate asset case against TN Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Justice V Jagannathan directed the agency to stop further investigation into the matter to meet the ends of justice.

J-K interlocutors report before Oct 12

JAMMU: Ruling out any delay in submission of their report,the Centres interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir on Friday said they would submit it to the government before October 12. Our term comes to an end on October 12. The report will be handed over before October 12, said Dilip Padgaonkar,who heads the three-member team of interlocutors.

Shia cleric stakes claim to temple

LUCKNOW: Shia leader Maulana Kalbe Jawad has staked claim to Masonic Temple in Hazratganj area of Lucknow,saying the land where it stands belonged to the wakf in 1857 and was taken over by the British government. He has threatened to launch an agitation if the land wasnt given to the UP Shia Central Wakf Board. The district administration has refuted the Shia clerics claim.

Former BSP MLA disqualified

LUCKNOW: Former BSP MLA Fareed Mahfooz Qidwai was disqualified as a member of the Assembly under the anti-defection law by Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar on Friday for joining the Samajwadi Party. The decision came a day after the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had dismissed Qidwais petition,seeking directions to the Speaker to consider his resignation first.

12 trapped as building caves in

HYDERABAD: At least 12 persons were trapped under a five-storey apartment in Kakinada town which sank into the ground upto the second floor on Friday evening. Five persons were rescued by neighbours,police and fire fighters,said Kakinada SP C M Trivikra Varma.
