Anupam Kher claims ‘best friend’ Anil Kapoor got him fired from Mr India, producer Boney Kapoor didn’t tell him about it till the last minute. Watch

Their fun banter continued as Sikandar wanted to hit his father again, when Anupam turned his face away and said, “Nahi nahi nahi beta (No no no son).” When Sikandar didn’t listen to him, he clutched his hand and added, “Aisa nahi karte. Mat kar (You shouldn’t do this. Don’t do it).” Sikandar then gently touched Anupam’s cheek. When Sikandar mentioned that he would share the video on social media, Anupam replied, “You’re not going to post this. It’s a personal thing between us.”

Next, the father-son duo spoke about lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. The veteran actor revealed that Javed’s daughter, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, cast him in a cameo appearance in one of her movies, but then deleted the scene. Anupam also recalled that he was recast in Mr India, and wasn’t even told about it until the end. For the unversed, Anupam was cast as Mogambo in Mr India but was recast midway and was replaced by Amrish Puri. “Javed saab threw me out of Mr India. Not Javed saab, it was Anil Kapoor, who is my best friend, and Boney Kapoor too. They didn’t tell me until the end,” he said. But, Kher admitted that he couldn’t have played this part “as brilliantly as Amrish Puri.”

It was actually for the role of Mogambo in the 1987 film Mr India, but Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor removed him. While sharing the post, Sikander wrote in the caption, “For Javed Akhtar (uncle), Boney Kapoor, Amrish Puri (legend), Anil Kapoor, Shekhar Kapur (uncle) … enjoy #KherSaab after his tooth removal.”

For the unknown, Anupam Kher married actress-politician Kirron Kher, in 1985 when Sikander was four years old. He is Kirron’s son with her first husband, Gautam Berry.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Anupam Kher was last seen in his own directorial Tanvi The Great, also starring debutant Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role. He will next feature in Khosla Ka Khosla 2, with Ranvir Shorey, Kiran Juneja, Parvinn Dabass, Tara Sharma, Ravi Kishan, and others. On the other hand, Sikander Kher last starred in the war drama Ikkis.
