PM Modi to visit Kerala on Jan 23, flag off four new trains including 3 Amrit Bharat Express – check routes

PM Modi to visit Kerala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four new trains, including three Amrit Bharat Express, during his visit to Kerala on January 23. These new trains will further improve connectivity and enhance rail journey across several states: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The Amrit Bharat Express trains offer a travel experience comparable to the Vande Bharat Express, but are specifically designed to provide affordable and high-quality service for passengers from lower and lower-middle income category.

In a statement, M. Senthamil Selvan, Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala on Friday, 23rd January 2026. In Southern Railway, the Prime Minister will flag off 3 Amrit Bharat Express Trains and a passenger train. The main function will be held at Putharikandam Grounds in Thiruvananthapuram on 23rd January 2026.”

Kerala to get Amrit Bharat Express trains

Kerala will get its first set of Amrit Bharat Express trains with the introduction of:

  • Thiruvananthapuram Central-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express
  • Thiruvananthapuram North-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express
  • Nagercoil Jn-Mangaluru Jn Amrit Bharat Express

Apart from these, a passenger train will be introduced between Thrisur and Guruvayur. All these trains will be operated and maintained by the Southern Railway (SR) zone.

Thiruvananthapuram Central–Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express

The Thiruvananthapuram Central–Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express will connect Kerala’s capital city with Tamil Nadu’s major industrial, educational and medical centres. It will connect major destinations such as Tirunelveli, Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tiruchchirappalli, Vriddhachalam enroute, among others.

Thiruvananthapuram–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express

The Thiruvananthapuram–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express train will provide a strong rail link between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The train will run via major destinations such as Kollam, Chengannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Salem, Jolarpettai, Renigunta, Nellore, Tenali, Guntur and Nalgonda, among others.

Nagercoil–Mangaluru Jn Amrit Bharat Express

The Nagercoil–Mangaluru Jn Amrit Bharat Express will connect Tamil Nadu with coastal Karnataka through Kerala. It will run via major railway stations such as Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam, Chengannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Shoranur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, among others.

Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger train

The Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger train will provide direct connectivity between a major pilgrimage centre of Guruvayur and Thrissur. The train will provide convenient and affordable travel for daily commuters, students, and
