JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Sunday that his government was trying to resolve the issue of reservation for Gurjjars in government jobs. At a meeting with some Gurjjar leaders,Gehlot said his government was sensitive towards the interests of Gurjjars and expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved soon.

MLA held for setting ablaze businessman

LUCKNOW: UP Police on Sunday arrested Independent MLA Ajay Rai for allegedly setting ablaze businessman Bhanu Pratap Singh for refusing to vacate a building. He was arrested under the Gangster Act,police said. The MLA along with 30-odd supporters allegedly assaulted Singh and set him afire on March 26 after he refused to vacate the building in Varanasi8217;s Jagatganj locality.

Prisoner hurls bomb,jailer,8 inmates hurt

ORAI UP: Deputy Jailor Sunil Dutt Mishra and eight inmates at Orai district jail were injured when a prisoner,Prince Ahmad Ansari,allegedly hurled a crude bomb inside a barrack on Sunday afternoon,police said. The incident occurred in barracks 3 and 4,where Ansari and his aides clashed with another group. When Mishra attempted to pacify them,Ansari hurled the bomb,they added.

Vajpayee at AIIMS for routine check-up

NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,86,on Sunday underwent a routine check-up of his windpipe at the AIIMS. Vajpayee,who is suffering from various age-related ailments,was taken to the institute at around 10.30 am and was there for about an hour. Randeep Guleria,Professor of Medicine at AIIMS said the BJP veteran came for a routine check-up. Vajpayee underwent a tracheotomy at AIIMS on February 13 last year and undergoes tracheotomy tube revision with the hospital every two or three months,doctors said.

85 per cent polling in Pennagaram bypoll

DHARMAPURI TN: Saturdays byelection to Pennagaram Assembly Constituency in Tamil Nadu recorded around 85 per cent polling,District Collector P Amudha said Sunday. Votes will be counted on March 30,she added. The bypoll was necessitated by the death of DMK MLA P N Periyannan.

Prakash Mahajan is Sena spokesman

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena has appointed Prakash Mahajan,brother of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan as deputy leader and spokesman. After his brother8217;s death,Prakash joined the MNS but left last year following differences with Raj Thackeray. He later joined the Shiv Sena.
