3 CRPF men die of heat stroke

BHOPAL: Three CRPF Head Constables died of heat stroke on the first day of their training camp in central training college in Gwalior on Monday,prompting authorities to send a three-member probe team from Delhi. Two other constables are undergoing treatment for similar symptoms. Vinay Gam 182 Battalion,Dinesh Chandra Kori 180 Battalion and Satyanarayan Yadav 164 Battalion died at a local hospital where they were rushed for heat stroke symptoms. About 300 CRPF men are taking weapons and tactics training at the college. The three had reached Gwalior from J-K on Sunday and probably found it difficult to cope with the sudden rise in temperature that shot to 46.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Babloos parole plea opposed

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh jail authorities on Monday opposed before a Delhi court Babloo Srivastavas plea for custody parole to help him recuperate following an eye operation,saying he was a notorious criminal. The reply filed by authorities of Bareilly District Jail where Babloo is lodged to Additional Sessions Judge Shalinder Kaur said the accused could not be allowed to remain outside the prison for 10 days. The court adjourned the matter for May 29.

Hawala dealer plea rejected

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected a plea by Naresh Kumar Jain challenging the jurisdiction of a city court hearing a case of alleged hawala dealings against him. Finding substance in the police probe,the high court noted that there was a possibility of involvement of Jain in alleged laundering of drug money and financing narcotic syndicates across the world.

Indian peacekeeper killed in Congo

DAKAR Senegal: An Indian soldier on a UN peacekeeping mission has been shot and killed in fighting in eastern Congo. The soldier and his patrol came to the aid of Congolese soldiers under attack in North Kivu province on Sunday. The soldier died of his wounds in a hospital in Goma. The world body said today that a Congolese soldier and a civilian also were killed in the ambush.

SP MP Virendra Bhatia dies at 53

NEW DELHI: Sitting Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Virendra Bhatia,who was undergoing treatment in a private hospital here,died on Monday. Born in Sialkot Pakistan in 1947,Bhatia was a lawyer by profession and had also served as the Uttar Pradesh Advocate General during SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadavs rule. He was the national president of the SPs lawyers cell.

Naga students asked to end blockade

Imphal: Manipur-based Naga leaders on Monday appealed students from the community to call off the month-long indefinite economic blockade of the states two national highways to end the suffering of common people. In a joint statement,Naga Leaders Forum of Manipur convener A S Simreiyo and general secretary P A Thokho said people were suffering due to shortage of essential commodities and other items of daily need on account of the blockade since April 12.

Senior PRP leader Venkat Rao quits

Hyderabad: The Praja Rajyam Party suffered a jolt with senior leader and Political Affairs Committee member Kimidi Kala Venkat Rao quitting the party on Monday. Rao faxed his resignation to Chiranjeevi,PRP sources said. He has reportedly not cited any specific reason for quitting.
