The Supreme Court has said a rape victims testimony, particularly if the woman is illiterate, can be accepted fully without any corroboration.
In a case of rape, particularly,if the victims are illiterate, their statements have to be accepted in toto without further corroboration, a Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and R M Lodha said. The courts must remain alive to the fact that in a case of rape no self-respecting woman would come forward in a court just to make a humiliating statement against her honour, the court said.
