A joy ride

I am from Delhi and have often noticed that popular tourist places like India Gate,Connaught Place,Red Fort etc are common fixtures in many films. But for Delhi Belly,director Abhinay Deo deliberately selected places which were decrepit,lesser-known and not conventionally beautiful. So in the movie,the action unfolds at Kamala Nagar,Subhash Nagar and Noida, says Vir Das,who plays one of the three main leads in the film along with Imran Khan and Kunal Roy Kapoor.

What enhanced the canvas further,according to Das,was that the films director of photography DOP was Jason West, a foreigner who saw the city in a different light. He would see a location and its personality in a different perspective. When we were shooting at Karol Bagh,one of the most crowded markets of Delhi,he did not want to blur the backdrop as is generally done in long shots,but lights were lit up near every vendor. That made for some really striking visuals, continues Das.

The film will present places which are confluences of the local culture,while the three-wheelers,over-packed buses and metros will give the audience a feel of the fast-moving pace of the city.
