
VADODARA, July 1: After razing pakka constructions from sensitive the Machhipeeth area on Tuesday, the anti-encroachment squad of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Wednesday swooped down on 11-odd shops falling on the road margin in Manjalpur.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel told Express Newsline that the shopkeepers were given notices under section 260 2 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation BPMC Act. The shopkeepers had not responded to the show-cause notices issued under Section 260 1 of the Act, he stated.
The operation under the leadership of Patel, Bajrang Pardeshi, Bhargav Vyas and others began in the morning and continued till late in the evening. Parts falling on the road margin were demolished.
Some of the shopkeepers had voluntarily demolished construction falling on the road margin. The squad also demolished four rooms made in common plot of a housing society. Sources said a shed set up by a noted builder was also brought down.
The squad also cleared encroachment from over the Masia storm water drains between Lal Baug and Shreyas School. The encroachment was made by 25-odd slum dwellers and few days ago Congress councillors Kanchan Parmar, Chirag Zhaveri and Minaxi Desai had demanded that the encroachment be cleared to facilitate access for rain water. Due to encroachment, the water gushes back, civic sources stated.
The Corporation disconnected 10 illegal water connections of Shreejidham Society in Tarsali, according to Additional City Engineer B S Trapasia.
