After days of recording dense fog conditions, the weather improved in Delhi early Thursday, with hardly any fog over at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.
The visibility on Christmas day increased — from just 100 metres on Wednesday to 2,500 metres — early on Thursday. The weather agency predicted no fog over the IGI Airport till noon as well as in the subsequent 12 hours, as the AQI monitoring station in the area logged in an AQI of 121, as of 5:30 am.
The morning skies were seen to be clearer in several parts of Delhi, as the air quality in the national Capital improved somewhat to the “poor” category, with an average AQI reaching 221 at 5:30 am, according to the Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS). A thin layer of smog, however, continues to prevail over some parts of the Capital.

Shimla in Himachal Pradesh witnessed clear skies on Thursday, with the weather expected to remain dry and pleasant over the next three days, news agency PTI reported.

Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad region between December 27 and 30, according to IMD forecast. The agency forecast similar weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh on December 28 and 30, while over Uttarakhand on December 29 and 30.
In Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, dense fog shrouded areas around the Vidhan Sabha since Thursday morning, reducing visibility and affecting day-to-day activities, the news agency reported.

Shallow to dense fog conditions were observed at many places over East Uttar Pradesh, at a few places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha and Bihar.
West Uttar Pradesh, isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, experienced moderate fog conditions today.
Many places over Gangetic West Bengal, few places over West Uttar Pradesh, and isolated places over Bihar also witnessed shallow fog conditions early.
The iconic Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra was clearly visible to residents and tourists alike, as clearer skies prevailed over the city on Thursday amid biting cold, news agency PTI reported sharing visuals. The minimum temperature was recorded to be 11 degrees Celsius in the city.
In Shravasti, however, dense fog prevailed over the skies, resulting in poor visibility and impacting everyday chores in the region. The visibility at Lucknow Airport was recorded to be 100 metres with dense fog at 6 am, according to IMD, which then improved to 350 metres between 6:30 and 8:30 am. It will likely improve to 800 metres between 9:30 am to 11:30 am.

Dense fog and cold wave also enveloped the city of Kanpur early today, impacting visibility in the area. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be 6 and 18 degrees Celsius through the day, IMD noted.
IndiGo airline on Thursday issued a travel advisory warning passengers about potential flight disruptions, caused by dense fog and low visibility in Bengaluru. The airline said it is closely monitoring weather conditions and providing full support to ensure safe and smooth travel for its passengers.
In its advisory, IndiGo stated, “Low visibility and fog over #Bangalore has impacted flight schedules. We’re keeping a close watch on the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly.”

The IMD has forecast foggy weather conditions early morning over Bengaluru this week, with visibility near Kempegowda International Airport ranging between 1500 to 3000 metres until 9 am, according to METAR-TAF website. It is likely to improve to 5000 metres by 12:30 pm. The minimum temperature is likely to remain at 15 degrees Celsius in the city.
