DC order on solvent trucks
In a bid to check adulteration of petrol with solvents, District Collector Anil Mukim has ordered transporters to prominently display on their vehicles the destination of any solvents they happened to be carrying. The order comes in the wake of the discovery that industrial solvents were illegally sold to petrol pumps for mixing with the fuel.

Class XI students
The admission procedure for 1,700 city students who cleared their SSC supplementary examinations will begin on Friday. The admissions have been divided in four zones 8211;Old Padra Road, Fatehgunj, Ghadiyali Pol and Manjalpur 8212; and the procedure will continue for two days.

Panther killed
An adult male panther, which had bitten seven people in the Rangpur area of Chhotaudepur taluka since Wednesday morning, was gunned down by forest officials in the evening. A forest department spokesman said the lack of food in the forest had forced the panther near the village.

Arts admission
The dean of Faculty of Arts of M S University has decided to accept, from Friday to Sunday, the fees of students seeking admission in TYBA and MA-II. The fee will be accepted between noon and 2 pm.

Rainfall in dist
Six talukas of the district received rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 4 pm on Wednesday. District flood control officials said Vadodara received 20 mm rains total seasonal rainfall: 240 mm, followed by Waghodia 17 mm. Rain has been forecast in several parts of Central Gujarat.

Poll date protest
The Municipal Primary School Committee has urged Education Minister Anandiben Patel to persuade the Election Commission to change the date of Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat from September 5. In a letter, Committee chairman Kishan Sheth said if elections were held on September 5, the State would not be able to celebrate Teacher8217;s Day.

EME thanks
The Commandant of the EME School and all ranks thanked Barodians on Wednesday for their contributions to the Army Central Welfare Fund for the families of Kargil martyrs. A release issued here said citizens had been asked to make out their demand drafts/cheques in favour of the ACWF and place them in the donation box at the school gate in Fatehgunj.
