
No boating on Sursagar
Police Commissioner J Mahapatra has banned all kinds of boating in the Sursagar Lake in view of its rising water level. The ban, which has been enforced with immediate effect, will remain in force till October 30, 1999, according to a police notification.
Rains forecast
The district flood control room has forecast moderate rains in some parts of the district and isolated areas of the Central Gujarat in the next 24 hours. Only Vadodara and Jetpurpavi talukas recorded 1 mm rainfall each in the 24 hours ending at 4 pm on Sunday, while Chhotaudepur received 5 mm rain.
Procession
The Dawoodi Bohra sect of Shia Muslims will take out a grand procession in the city on Monday morning to mark the 88th birth anniversary of their religious head Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. The procession will begin at 9.30 a.m. at the Ladwada Dawoodi Bohra mosque behind Jamunabai Hospital and terminate at the same place after passing through Mandvi Gate, Gendi Gate and Mughalwada. A general feast has been organised at 2 p.m. in Doodhwala Hall at Panigate.
Musical night
Members of the Jan Jagriti Abhiyan, Vadodara, will organise a musical night at the Mahatama Gandhi Nagar Gruh on Monday evening to pay homage to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil conflict. Chandrashekhar Pagedar, Shirish Pandya, Yogesh Vyas, Dharsinh Barot, Sunil Modi, Amarsinh Marathe, Ninad Mehta, Yogi Pathak, Shilpa Pandya, Khayati Trivedi, Anjana Barot, Rekha Rawal and Saloni Modi will perform in the programme, titled, Jo Laut Ke Ghar Na Aaye’. City Mayor Umakant Joshi will be the chief guest, a press note said.
PSI tests
As many as 1,080 aspirants for posts of State police sub-inspectors, who passed their physical tests, appeared for the written examination at the Panchsheel Vidyalaya. Similar written tests were held at other district centres all over the State. There are about 250 vacancies for PSIs in the State.
Poll directive
Surat: Collector and District Election Officer Sangeeta Singh has issued a directive stating that all pamphlets and handbills printed for canvassing must have the name and address of the publisher or printer on them.
