Sirens set up in city
The district administration has installed sirens at 17 points in the city, and started educating residents about the various aspects of security in view of the Kashmir skirmishes. 8220;People are being informed about the use of sirens, as well as fire safety, building collapse and first-aid8221;, civil defence chief warden B R Kandoi said.

Civic amenities
Senior officers of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and defence wings on Thursday held a meeting to discuss the civic amenities being provided to the defence installations in the city. Sources said the VMC had said the little shortfall in water supply could be made up when the Harni underground sump started functioning within four months. The details of the discussion will be presented at a meeting in Gandhinagar on Friday.

Best educationist
S K Bhattacharya, principal of the Chanderbala Mody Academy, Ankleshwar, has bagged the prestigious Best Educationist Award for 1998-99. The award was given away recently by Dr B S Reddy, former Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.

Camp at Savli
The Community Education and Development centre organised a camp at Savli recently to create awareness about the benefits of government schemes for Dalit communities. Around 350 widows, old and disabled people attended the camp.
