
Engineers issue strike notice to GEB
The GEB Engineers8217; Association on Thursday issued a strike notice to the Gujarat Electricity Board GEB for its failure to give the engineers benefit of the Fifth Pay Commission8217;s recommendations as per a Memorandum of Understanding MoU signed on October 17, 1998. The engineers associated with the Association would observe work-to-rule on February 11 and take a mass casual leave on February 17. They have also threatened to go on mass casual leave on February 18. There are nearly 4,500 engineers. Association general secretary J C Marathe said there was discontent among the engineers as they were not given benefits, including dearness allowance, despite more than three months of signing the MoU.
ABVP seminar
A two-day seminar on Women8217;s Higher Education: Problems and Solutions8217; has been organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from Friday as part of their golden jubilee celebrations. It will be inaugurated by Gujarat Assembly Speaker Dhirubhai Shah, while Minister of State for Education Anandiben Patel will preside over the valedictory function.
Students8217; protest
A section of the students of the Faculty of Performing Arts, M S University stayed away from classes on Wednesday protesting against the alleged high-handedness of Dean D K Bhonsle during examinations. This was in reaction to the incident that occurred at the faculty on Tuesday after a tiff between a student and the dean.
Yoga classes
Monthly yoga classes based on Patanjal Yoga Shastra will begin from Friday at the Arogya Mandir. The classes will be divided into morning and evening batches from 6.30 to 7.30 am and 6 to 7 pm. Forms are available at the Arogya Mandir, Ellora Park.
