48 arrested for gambling
As many as 48 people were arrested and Rs 32,000 seized during a raid at a gambling den in Nawabwada area of Machchipeeth on Tuesday evening. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police C P Chaudhary, the Dilawar Gymkhana, which was registered as a social and entertainment organisation, was indulging in illegal activities, including gambling. The raid was conducted by a police party comprising Chaudhary, PI J D Ramgharia of Karelibaugh police station, Detection of Crime Branch inspector R A Munshi and others. Gymkhana owner Ishaq Bachchu Miyan Shaikh has also been arrested.

Eye camp
The ongoing eye camp at the SSG Hospital is attracting a large number of patients as well as inviting support from philanthropists of the city. Hospital superintendent Dr Kamal Pathak said as many as 565 cataract operations were performed and more than 111 people donated their eyes in the past few days. While two timer machines and one refrigerator was donated to the hospital, lenses were transplanted on 463 patients.

Move welcomed
Workers of the Gujarat Minerals Development Corporation, Kadipani village in Chhotaudepur taluka of the district and the Gujarat State Minerals Employees8217; Sangh have welcomed the State government8217;s decision to reopen the flouride plant.

Welfare scheme
The Vikas Jyot Trust under its Welfare Scheme for Street Children8217; will conduct blood tests for street children around the railway station, Polytechnique, Bawanchal, Phulwadinaka, Navidharti and Nyayamandir-Kodadirvas areas from February 6 to 27. The tests will determine the haemoglobin count and blood groups of the children so as to help evaluate data on the health status of the children.
