
Minister lays stone for health centre
Health Minister Ashok Bhatt laid the foundation stone of a community health centre in Olpad taluka. The centre will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 52 lakhs. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government had introduced new recruitment scheme Come and Join8217; for doctors. He said the government had allocated Rs 12 lakh for the Mamta Kit, under which 26 midwives will be imparted training.
Youth festival
As many as 67 artists from Surat took part in a two-day youth festival held in Pavagadh of Vadodara district on December 12 and 13. Artists from Surat took part in 33 competitions organised by the State government8217;s youth and culture department. While six city youths bagged first prizes and one third prize, the state-level competition will be held in Navsari on December 17 and 18. Youth and Culture Minister Mahendra Trivedi will preside over the function, while Cottage Industry Minister Mangubhai Patel will be present as the chief guest.
Literacy meeting
The Surat district literacy committee meeting will be held on December 30 at the collector8217;s office at 4 pm.
Officer8217;s visit
District Development Officer Kamal Dayani visited 18 villages in Vyara taluka and inspected offices of the talula officer, the talati and checked official records. According to a statement, the DDO initiated action wherever irregularities were detected.
Low-price tickets
Senior city Congress leader Manharlal Patiawala has demanded that concession tickets for senior citizens be issued from the Lalgate office of the railways. In a statement issued here, the Congress leader said while tickets of all stations were issued from the Lalgate office, senior citizens were denied the facility.
