
CHANDIGARH, Nov 3: The Chandigarh Administration has appointed Deputy Commissioner M. Ramsekhar as Principal Census Officer. The Subdivisional District Magistrate Central P.S. Gill has been appointed District census Officer and Assistant Estate Officer S.K. Sharma, and Tehsildar H.R. Nagra are Census Charge Officers for City and Rural respectively.
They are authorised to sign the Census 2001 declaration and appoint Census to the Principal Census Officer and District Census Officer. The Administration has also authorised the director, joint director, deputy director and assistant direcor of Census Operations to issue and sign declarations and appoint officers for Census 2001 in the Union Territory.
Computer course
The Zila Sainik Welfare Office is sponsoring 20 ex-servicemen and their dependents for a free six-month computer course to be conducted from November 22 at Punjab Engineering College. A test will be conducted to screen applicants on November 17. Applicants must be educated at least up to plus-two. November 15 is the last date for submission of applications at the Announcing the scheme, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer Lt Col G.S. Dhillon also disclosed that the office is offering scholarships to matriculate children of ex-servicemen, living or deceased, who want to continue their studies. He also announced that the UT Administration has acceded to the demand for bus passes for war widows. CTU will now issue passes to war widows for local routes and for outside Chandigarh along with one attendant.
Diesel hike flayed
In a press note released here today, the Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of quot;cheating the poor of the country by increasing diesel prices by a whopping 40 per cent.The CTYC president Chander Mukhi Sharma demanded an immediate rollback. He observed that while international prices of petroleum products have been on the rise for the past five months and government policy dictated a month-by-month review of prices, the Central government did not hike prices prior to polls the elections but waited until it came to power. He noted that in parts of Bihar, were elections were held on October 28, the voters had rejected the BJP and the party lost three seats which it previously held.
